Dungeons and Dragons
Welcome back to a new term and a new year.
Our topic for our first term is Dungeons and Dragons!
This will provide a focus behind much of the rest of our learning up to Christmas in which we will be looking at the concept of Story Design and Authorial Technique through the imagination of roleplaying. This look at character will help build our reading skills of inference, deduction, character motive and analysis of descriptive writing.
Our science will also use this as an initial focus looking at anatomy and skeletons of both the human body and other animals - after which we will look at habitats and food chains - which will also tie in with our geography. Here we will focus on different landscapes and terrain types, learning vocabulary and identifying why some species prefer different habitats.
Our art and technology work will focus on this topic as well - drawing dragons, designing floor-plans for castles and buildings and studying examples of architecture that have inspired the worlds of fantasy. Children will be given time in groups to redesign the "den" in the classroom to a room of their choice.
We will continue to have regular P.E. sessions (please make sure you have PE kits in school all the time please), as well as Latin, computing and music appreciation.
