Great Steeping Primary School

A Message From The Governing Body

The Governing body is responsible for promoting high standards of quality education to its pupils. In partnership with the Head Teacher, who is responsible for all day to day management of the school, the governing body sets the schools aims and purpose, monitors the effectiveness of policies and a number of other duties including overseeing the school budget and forming policy around curriculum.

The governing body consists of members of the community and local authority, parent representatives, the Head Teacher, staff representatives and clerk to the governors who facilitates all administration and takes minutes of meetings. Governors are a corporate group and no single governor is expected to make individual decisions. In addition to the full governing body meetings, there is also the finance committee and a curriculum committee.

Responsibilities of the governing body include providing the strategic direction of the school, agreeing the schools improvement strategy, monitoring performance of and holding the head teacher and staff to account for the performance of the school whilst monitoring impact of policies and plans.

Great Steeping is committed to promoting the safety and happiness of all children, providing the skills and opportunities to ensure the best start in education.

Governors are accessible to provide support and guidance, whilst working in partnership with families to promote the success of each individual child. Being a school governor can be demanding but rewarding and provides opportunities to support the school and local community whilst helping to prepare children for their future.
